The Land and Water Boards of the Mackenzie Valley (LWBs) are thrilled to announce the launch of our Indigenous Flower Beading Series, an opportunity for talented artists to share their skills and celebrate the rich heritage of Northern Indigenous beadwork. Over the next 12 months, we will highlight the beauty of Indigenous floral designs, each month featuring a new theme. This is more than just an art project—it’s a way to keep traditional art forms alive and celebrate Indigenous culture through storytelling in beads. Let’s come together to honour the past, celebrate the present, and inspire future generations through the art of Indigenous flower beading.
Calling All Beading Artists!
Whether you’re an experienced bead worker or a passionate emerging artist, we invite Indigenous beading artists in the NWT to reach out and be a part of this exciting initiative!
How to Get Involved:
• Include a introduction paragraph or two of yourself and your connection to Indigenous culture and traditions; and
• Submit a proposed theme for one, several, or each month of the year and your vision to bring it to life through the delicate and vibrant art of floral beading.
Submission Deadline: October 24th, 2024
All artists who make a submission will receive $25 for each month they propose a theme and a vision for the beaded flower. The artist whose theme and design are selected for each month will receive $250 for the use of the likeness of their design for ongoing communication purposes and not for resale or profit. The artist selected each month will also be asked to speak with Cabin Radio for a short interview.
