GNWT-AC (Yellowknife Campus) - MV2013X0003

To provide driver training and mine timbering experience to Northern Aboriginal students using underground mining equipment. Training is a component of the Underground Miner Training Program offered by the College twice annually. The program has the support of the three diamond mining complanies of the NWT all of whom have hired graduates of this program and will continue to do so. Training will be undertaken at teh GNWT permitted quarry located at KM 11 on Ingraham Trail. The college works in partnership with the Mine Training Society of the NWT and has been conducint this training at this location for the past number of years under the GNWT permit. It was determined that training was not a part of the scope of work identified for the permit and therefore the College was asked to apply independantly. The College simply moves granular material that has been stockpiled by the GNWT from one location to another and back again. A 16X16X100 timber structure will be built on site to replicate timbering conditions found in an underground mining situation. There is limited to no fuel being stored, very little waste generation and minimal to no impact to the surrounding environment. No camp will be established. A 8X12 shed will be used onsite and serve as a storage, shelter and meal facility,
